Looking for the Wildflowers :budrose:

In the past, I have found lots of large patches of Spring Wildflowers along the Lost Goldmine Trail, but so far this year there haven't been any reports coming from that area, so I wanted to check it out for myself. :?

I left home around 2:00 pm under heavy patches of dark ominous clouds hanging over the ridges of the Superstition Ridgeline. The traffic on the 60 through Gold Canyon is nuts, the Westbound traffic is stop & go for a couple of miles and it's all related to turning traffic and long waits at the lights.

As I arrived at the Hieroglyphics TH, I found only a couple of parking spots open.... must be a busy day at the "Glyphs" so I grabbed one close to the TH and quickly hit the trails. The sky was awesome with the huge dark clouds broken by patches of blue sky and intermittent patches of sun... I love it when there's lots of detail in the sky.

The volunteers at S.A.L.T. (Superstition Area Land Trust) have done a commendable job on maintaining the Lost Goldmine Trail, the trail now detours around some of the areas that had loose rocks and lots of digging and filling along the way :) I was surprised that many of my favorite flower patches were still void of color and only a few places had early stage growth of Mexican Poppies, Lupine and Brittlebush. :o Guess they need a little time yet. :-k

The light rains we had on Sunday and Monday kept the trails damp but there wasn't enough to get the washes running or to fill even the occasional pools along the way. The desert is incredibly green and the scent of flowers permeates the air with a pleasant fresh odor..... but very few flowers to be found.

I didn't run into any hikers on this trail until I made my turnaround at the base of Turkshead and then I only met two. I ran into a bit of rain on my return but not enough to get wet so a very pleasant couple of hours.

New growth is everywhere but time is still needed for a major bloom.

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.
