The trail passes Sunnyslope High School's athletic fields on the south. Heard baseball batting practice and radio playing pop music. At the half-mile mark, at Dunlap, the large concrete Arizona Canal Diversion Channel (ACDC) emerges from underground and runs along the north side of the canal. There's a pedestrian underpass there but I crossed on the busy street anyway. Just east of 7th Ave, there is an encampment of homeless people on the north bank of the ACDC. The only point of interest between 7th Ave and 19th is a pedestrian bridge. This was a long lonesome stretch of 1.05 mi, but very clean compared to the Grand Canal. This segment separates modest residences on the south from shabby industrial area on other side.
Ran into a large flock of mallards behind Sunnyslope HS. Counted 32 plus four coots. Saw no fish or anglers and heard no splashes along this entire segment. |
