| no partners | | Came out here for second day in row, this time with MJ. Her first visit. Started out about 3 from TH and did the Brown's Mountain summit, then down from the saddle on the west, around the northwest slopes on the Upper Ranch Trail then back on the Ranch Road, completing a loop.
Saw five others on the summit but after that no hikers and only a few bikers. Much more haze and clouds than yesterday.
Upper Ranch Trail particularly proved a mess. Some thoughtless riders rode horses over the trail shortly after the last rains and left deep ruts in the clay-like soil when it hardened. Shouldn't happen. Did see a Crucifixion Thorn tree on this trail with many reddish-brown seed pods still hanging. Think Tibber mentioned seeing a Crucifixion in one of her You-Tube videos but in a different place, between Cholla and Granite Mountains perhaps.
Brown's Ranch is almost 40 mi of city traffic from home in central Phoenix, and I probably won't get out this way again soon. It's a great area though. |
