Weather during the day was perfect, pretty damn cold at night, little below 30. My 30 degree bag was not cutting it. The hike was pretty scenic, when I wasn't looking down trudging up hill, which was probably 85% of the way in. Should've gotten myself in a little better shape before hand. Plenty of water in the creek at the Ranch, lots of good camp spots with fire pits and logs for sitting. Firewood was pretty well picked over, but we did find some and also got lucky and found a recently abandoned camp site with some good wood already there which kept us happy before bed and for a bit in the morn. The hike out is of course almost all downhill, but still 10 miles, so the dogs were barking pretty good by the time we got back to the trailhead. So nice hike, but 20 miles is 20 miles. Next time I'd probably want to make it a 2 nighter, to give more time to chill at the ranch and explore the area more. Circlestone sounds pretty sweet. |
