One of their group had gotten bit by a rattler late Friday night, so they separated from the larger group to call for a rescue. We came upon the larger group about an hour later. The little guys (all aged 9-12ish) were in decent enough shape after the ordeal the night before, but the adult with them was certainly done. Some cowboys told us about the trash the group had left behind, and said their saddlebags didn't have enough room for it all. We packed the rest out on our way back. The boys' attempt at a stretcher was comical. The amount of garbage they left was not. We gave them the benefit of the doubt on account of the crisis.
The Ranch was cool, windy, and filled with flowers and apples, the makings of a very pleasant lunch break. The apples was really tasty, especially the green ones. Some organic baby food is in the works with these. The creek was surprisingly dry. After filling up, fixing a problem toenail, and grabbing some apples, we headed back the way we came. A little warm on the hike out of the Reavis Valley, but the downhill was pleasant with the help of a light breeze, and the views were gorgeous as always. |
