Deb and I figured this could be our last trip out to the Maricopa Mtns., unless a cold front comes thru. We've been fighting the lung crud so this would be a good hike to get some distance without climbing. We started out sounding like escapees from a Sunnyslope TB sanatorium hacking and coughing. Then slowly the nice warm dry desert air started clearing our lungs, at the same time the warm desert scents started filling our noses.
We were surprised the desert was still green and the amount of poppies blooming was a special treat. Truly one of our better hiking days.
