A complete off-trail scramble along this creek with plenty of water and amazing landscape. Easy access from phoenix makes this canyon a top choice for this time of the year. The water temperature was cold but the constant moving and sun exposure made for some refreshing swims and traversing water sometimes on waist deep water. Pretty much the entire route was a constant challenge, which makes it for some hard 7 miles.
On our way up in the morning we debated whether we would call this place a canyoneering vs. hike route and by the end of the day we all agreed that yes it was a canyoneering route. Being aware of all the slippery rock along the creek should always be present.
I highly recommend this Sycamore Canyon route as it is seldom visited and offers great views and many wow moments along the way. |
