Big elevation gain/loses make me happy! On the way down we encountered a family that had been down at the beach for the last two nights and had their three children, the youngest being a 6 year old.......all three kids hiking back up, i was very impressed! We made it down to Tanner beach in just 4:40. We found a cool alcove a few feet to the right at the trail junction. At that point my knees were not very happy and flat ground was badly needed. The following morning we took a short walk along the river down Escalante. We waited all day for rafters to come to the rescue with some beer but it was not our day. Both nights were dark and clear with perfect views of the stars. On the third morning we got up at the crack of dawn and prepared for our ascent back to the rim. At 7AM we started heading out to try to get as much of the shade as possible. Our only mission was to make it back out as quickly as possible, we made it out in 5:45 without any difficulties! |
