Still in mighty fine condition. It grows on me more and more with each trip. Familiarity with Sawtooth Ridge helps in understanding the terrain.
Campaign Trail #256
From West Pinto Creek to the saddle west of Pinto Peak 5,981 is brush free and in good condition. From the saddle down to Fireline junction I'd recommend pants. We fared okay in shorts dancing around the catclaw.
Fireline Trail #118
Trail is in fair condition. Redfield would not approve the cut of this trail for a good third of it's stretch. We traveled E>W which I prefer for better footing. Coming down to Campaign on the Fireline is a bit loose due to lack of switchbacks. Love the pines and diversity on this trail.
Reavis Ranch via 109 South
Fireline to Reavis Saddle is among my favorite stretches of hiking. I'm especially fond of late afternoon in the summer. 83 degrees, puffy fraleys and pleasant breezes made this another relaxing stroll. The grass clump field is easier to navigate this year. You can see the trail most of the way, no total blind spots.
Carried and consumed 5 litters. Pumped a quart, didn't use. The humidity early on was the only unpleasant part of the hike for myself. Planned to have an extra shirt to rotate for drying, forgot it. |
