A pleasant morning heading up the Horton Creek trail turned into a refreshing downpour and light thunderstorm which we waited out while many other hikers scurried back. Reaching the spring, the drizzle continued past lunchtime, but as soon as we ascended the nearby steep section all hell broke loose. Earlier we joked and laughed at what a pleasant change of pace it was from our usual summer scorcher in Phoenix but it soon turned out to be even too much for our native Washingtonian to handle. The trail turned to a mud-bath but we continued on.
All in all, it was still a great hike, and the rain slowed down and allowed us to oversee some incredible misty views up and around the rim. If not for the rain, I would've ventured out on the super-loop so I'm glad that didn't happen on a much steeper trail. Overall, the rim country still impressed and beckoned a return trip for further exploration. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated I'd like to find out what type of beautiful yellow wildflower we came across. See photo log. |
