| no partners | | FINALLY got to try this out...it's not that hard to get to from Phoenix, especially if you're used to driving up to Prescott, Sedona, or the Payson area to hike.
We got there just past 11am after about a 1.5+ hour drive out the 60 to Florence Junction, to AZ 79 to AZ 77. I'm glad we did not leave earlier as there was some children's nature event and cub/boy scouts swarming back to the trailhead from the trails, and the parking lot was packed. It was quite OK heading up at 11:30.
It took us 1 hour 30 mins to the pools. OK. I should point out I had a much-less-frequent hiker with me who also takes MANY photos, and there is NO way it would have taken me that long otherwise, and I found it very frustrating as I rarely stop when I hike alone. He's my partner though, so what can you do. Anyway, we got there, there were about 20 people spread out amongst all the pools, and there was flowing water at the pools and evident at a waterfalls in both Montrose and Romero Canyon...they could be seen and heard from the trail.
Return trip was a bit faster although I did finally just break off and wait at the Montrose pools. I was about 10 minutes ahead at that point It was a gorgeous day for this hike.
Oh on the way back from the pools, two guys in their 20's walked by with a dog on a leash. Apparently they couldn't read the 5 signs saying NO DOGS due to the bighorn sheep management area. |
