| no partners | | I decided to head back out to See Canyon (after hiking the branch trail to See Spring last week) to see how it compared to the See Spring area for foliage and color. I knew it might be a bit past peak, and it was, but only just barely.
I didn't hike up to the rim road, just to the third crossing of Christopher Creek (4 crossings altogether, but the 2nd crossing is actually See Creek, if that's what it's called...it's the outflow from See Spring). Anyway, there was a lot of nice color just past the burn area beyond the See Creek crossing, but nothing quite as good as at See Spring. I realized that much of the water in Christopher Creek comes from See Spring, and upstream of that there is currently little flow, and no flow at the last crossing. The maples and oaks which change color like more water In addition, where there was color, the trees were not nearly as large as those around See Spring, except in one place down in the creekbed where the trail was easily 50' above (with no easy way down). That's an area where if you backtracked and bushwhacked up the creek, you could get to a nice area.
The hike was not disappointing for color, as you can see from my pics, but I do like the See Spring area better. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Extreme Just past peak. I'd say go a week or two earlier (last two weeks in October). |
