| no partners | | The ATA’s gate upgrade initiative marches on, this weekend with two super-gates installed at the Pine TH. This was the farthest north the gates have been installed to date, and the first time we had snow to contend with--not much but definitely snow on the ground. Another first this time around is the collaboration between the USFS, the Arizona Trail Association and the Pine-Strawberry Fuels Reduction Inc. (http://psfuelreduction.org/about-us/) who warrant a special thanks for the assistance Sunday and the great lunch served on site!
The first gate went in directly east of the TH parking lot. The Pine- Strawberry Fuels Reduction group recently rebuilt the trail between the TH and the first creek crossing to the east, so the gate is a nice touch on the new alignment. The second gate was installed a few hundred yards south of the TH, near where the trail makes a sharp turn towards the highway. ATV abuse had been an issue in this location but likely no more! |
