| no partners | | When I don't have a plan and I don't want to stray far from home, this area always works for me. With the exception of the Massacre Falls trail, I rarely see anyone else up here and today was no exception. The quiet and solitude is what I needed.
Today's hike was to explore a canyon that leads up towards Peak 5024. The route starts near the southern most fin on the NE side of the mountain, drops briefly into a drainage, then ascends up the right side of the canyon towards the peak. The route is cairned and easy to follow. Judging from the number of cairns and the obviously well used foot path, this route appears to be somewhat popular, though I've never heard mention of it. The route eventually drops back down into another drainage farther up the mountain. With rain on the way, I decided to stop at this point, though I think I will revisit in the future.
I headed back down to the fins, then headed off trail towards Massacre Falls. When I reached the Falls trail, I saw that the Falls were dry, so I called it a day and followed the Massacre Falls trail back to the Crosscut TH. |
