| no partners | | Even though I would have preferred it, Humphrey was out of the question due to time constraints and my energy level. So, I opted to revisit this valley favorite and did the same route I did with Jake 3 and 1/3 years ago, except no getting off trail this time. As it was, I was slow going up, and had to take breaks. I almost didn't go for the peak of 5024, but did because I wanted the view. Worth it. Lots of familiar peaks to see, and I think the Salt River or a lake on it, too. I did note that the Pinalenos are not really visible and are either blocked by the Pinals, or other lower mountains nearer to the Supes. Naturally, I observed the Catalinas, and noted that only a small part of Pusch Peak is poking up over other low hills. To some extent this hike reminds me of Pusch, but longer and a bit harder. I used the same stats from 2012, as I see numerous GPS routes with the same hike I did, having more AEG recorded. Either way, that pusch, I mean push to the real peak has to add a few hundred feet.
Coming down, while in my own world of listening to the ravens, a few hummingbirds, and the occasional jet, I ran into JJ3. The odds of running in to this particular HAZ member for a 3rd time in 4 months, each time on a different hike in either Tucson or here, has got to be something else. If I start to do this with some level of regularity, increasing as the year cools, I suspect I'll see many more people here. HAZers, or not. I pretty much had the place to myslef today. |
