| no partners | | Took my nephew Marco (the 12 year old kid who hiked Mt Etna with me last month) out for his first Flatiron attempt and Peak 5024 summit. This was also my son, Justin's, second Flatiron attempt. It was slower going than I'm used to and really didn't like how long it took us, considering our midsummer timing. Can't complain about the heat too much. It was a beautiful breezy and somewhat cool day on the mountain. We started at 5:30am and made it back to Mining Camp at 11am. I had hoped for a 9:30am return. Needless to say, pretty warm from the basin down to the car. The boys looked spent, but I reinvigorated them with a promise to hit the QT on the way home where they would be able to pick their choice of beverage for the car ride home. Two blue slushies saved the day. We cooled off with a cool dip in the pool when we got home. |
