About 2/3's the way up there is a tree...you can go under the branches to the right or around the tree to the left. I usually go around and to the left, but found myself taking the route under the tree. Grabbed a 200lb boulder to pull myself up and it moved. I began my backwards tumble along with the boulder following close behind. As I came to a stop I heard the boulder rolling behind me and waited for the impact against my body. Fortunately, the boulder took a slightly different path and it came to a stop about 2 feet to my left (trail right...I was on my back facing downhill at this point.) Felt a little shaken up, examined my body for injury and didn't notice any significant damage. A sore hip, a few scratches. Examined the scene. The boulder and I both traveled about 10 feet down the mountain. I decided to continue on, nerves rattled and a bit beat up.
81 mins to Flatiron
2 min break
65 mins to Mining Camp
Slowed down my descent quite a bit. I felt like every boulder I stepped on was going to move. Much more cautious than usual on my way down. |
