This segment is very enjoyable. Trail is well maintained and not rocky. Terrain becomes Sedona-like with red rock outcroppings, Juniper and manzanita before switching back to mostly pine. Great views as well. Then ascend the rim via Promontory Trail, which is a little bit more challenging than Drew, but still fun. Took in the amazing views for a minute then hiked across the butte via FR's 76B & 76. Took Rim Rd for just a moment over to See Cyn Trail and back down to the TH. Next time I will look for an alternative to hiking Rim Rd. I enjoyed solitude for almost the entire trip aside from a few fellow hikers. Only saw one deer and two hawks but heard elk bugling near the bottom of See Cyn. Stats include a few short side trips. This was a very enjoyable loop overall. Temps cooperated and stayed in the mid 70s. |
