We decided to do a short hike with our neighbors. Hawes Pass is the closest spot to our house, and I also figured that from there we would be able to get some nice views of the snow up north. From the Power Road trailhead we did the short 3 mile loop, which we’ve done before. Other than the views of the snow up north, where the trail crosses below where the storm water is channeled into a wash, the heavy flows from a week of rain carved out an interesting mini slot canyon that we were able to peer into without getting too close. Not far past that section the trail rises pretty high above the wash. It looked like in that area there may have been some recent rockfall that made the dropoff from the trail even steeper. Could get dicey in a few years after some heavy rains as that cuts into the trail. The weather was very cool but not too cold, just perfect.
