| no partners | | I knew upfront this was going to be a fairly boring summit bag. The summit of Bald Mountain is on private property. Bald Mountain Road is gated, fenced, and privately maintained, HOWEVER, there are large swaths of land that is Prescott National Forest, NOT PRIVATE. The residents here are pretty serious with all their "private property", "no trespassing", "security cameras in use". Whatever. So I took an as direct approach as possible but at the same time trying to stay on PNF land as much as possible. Made two forest bushwack snippets off Blue Jay Road connecting to Bald Mountain Road and again cutting off a large road switchback. Once on the "private property island" there was no avoiding being on private property. Bald mountain has a residence immediately WEST and two homes immediate EAST. Google earth showed the best approach was to just bank right (north) after the second driveway approaching summit. I overshot slightly and bushwacked easily to summit and added another foot onto the summit cairn.
There are some great views to Glassford Hill and Lynx Lake to the north. Unnamed 6548', Sun Devil Peak, and Bear Down Mountain to the northeast. Mount Elliot to the east-south-east. Big Bug Mesa Road to the south. Mount Davis to the SW. Mount Tritle to the WSW and Spruce Mountain to the West.
Bald Mountain never really revealed its prominence from the other peaks nearby. Although now that I got a birds eye view to Big Bug Mesa Road should now easily recognize Bald from BBM.
Temps were in the mid 60's at the start and I got a late late start, had to work a bit. The rain threatened and when I got back to house the temp went up a full one degree to 67. |
