| no partners | | Still lots of clumps of snow on the north face of Tritle. Tritle is a unique summit bag in that you have a couple of different options to add to the hike..... two mines to check out (a 60' deep mine off of Senator Highway where Walker Road terminates and the Senator Mine on the north flanks of the mountain) and the Hassayampa River with lots of waterfalls, some rock climbs in the drainage and boulder hopping. And Ohh....cant forget....bee bopping around the Senator Mill, or whats left of it, the trusses and foundation of a massive stamp mill built in the 1870's. And one more thing.... the Sundance Mine.
Walker Road terminates at Senator Highway. There is a sign here; Crown King is 27 miles. Two subdivision gates and a large clearing to park. Lets just this little clearing the official Mount Tritle East Ridgeline TH.
This is the forth time I have routed Tritle from the start of its east ridgeline. Immediately above the mine entrance, I have essentially trailed it up the spine. Your welcome. Eventually you connect onto a dirt road and numerous fire ring areas. Tritle is heavily used by off road motorcycles; ATV's; and quaders. 0.57 miles from your start, on its south flanks you will bump into the Sundance Mine, it is a mine shaft. It is fenced off with lots of mine tailings around it. It is a big hole in the ground. Views to the North Saddle Summit and the summit towers of Mount Union cannot be beat.
From the Sundance, you slant Northwest and continue to ridge the ridgeline. You can take the ATV road but thats no fun. coming soon, false summit #1. As you crest this first false summit, you meander southwest to stay on ridge and reconnect with the ATV road, it is trailed up from here on up to summit. On false summit #2 is a memorial complete with a motorcycle helmet and the guys box of ashes, and an amazing view of Mount Davis. Continue on the trail down then make the final assault up to summit.
NEW for this expedition, we have planted a HAZ summit register. In the register is a deck of cards, lay claim to an available playing card and sign and date. I wonder how long it will take to get all 52 cards "registered". I am the Ace of Spades. Taylor Zamora Dietz is the King of Hearts. Alana, his fiance is the Queen of Diamonds. We debated what Tyson Bagger should be. Well, as an Alabama Black Mouth Cur, his color is red. His collar is red. His harness is red. Diamond or Heart? Well he has no grace, so no heart. He tends to be more like Brian from Family Guy, kinda dickish, so Jack of Diamonds. But we asked the question, it it were up to Tyson, which card would he choose, we all agreed, he would pick the Ace of Diamonds. So there ya go.
Coming back down, we followed some red dotted trees on the north side of the saddle between summit and false summit #2, each time I come down I create a different route, this time I meandered to far north when I finally entered into the Hassayampa Drainage. Here is a video of my findings:

Meandering along the Hassayampa drainage where it kisses Mount Tritle is NEVER a dull moment. Waterfalls. Some rock climbs. Chunks of mining history. The Senator Mill. The Senator Mine. Its killer. Even during the summer, the water is flowing. This is my backyard. Staying in the drainage, it loops around and dumps you onto the Senator Highway about 1/8th of mile where you park your car. Yeah Tritle is the bomb. |
