The purpose of this hike was to establish an "official route" for Bigelow ..... aka Lynx Lake Observation Deck.... reviewing topographic maps and aerial photography, seemed the most logical spot for a Trailhead to "Biggy" was right at Mile Post 4 on Walker Road... there is a clearing or shoulder which can provide for 3 or 4 vehicles to park there.

Down and up and out of a drainage their is some barbed wire cattle fencing to negotiate and then you cross a trail, I think the "Smith Ravine Trail".... pay no attention to that trail as it traverses north-south... to peak bag Bigelow your going WEST friends.... and low and behold.... stumbled upon my friend whose Orange flags have decorated much of my route.... have seen his or her handy work on Union/Davis; Tritle and Maverick..... great minds think alike because my planned route followed much of the orange flags.

I caught up to what I think is the Smith Ravine trail but it was going SOUTH and I wanted to go up the ridge. This is where the fun began. Thankfully, there was no New Mexican Locust but it was a thick bush wack. Mainly overgrown Manzanita and Charparral. Caught up to the orange flags again and then stumbled upon a well groomed trail which flanked along the north side beneath the summit ridge. Which my 4 legged hike partner (Tyson "The Bag Man" Bagger) was very happy to see. After "trailing" for a bit, felt like it was terracing with a downslope NW. A quick check of Route Scout confirmed my suspicions, this was nto going to take us to the summit ridge. Told Tyson, "No Dude, we gotta bank SW and climb this bad boy. Once on the summit ridge its has two prominent out croppings, the east end and the west end. He was done and found solace under a shady juniper with which I blessed him with his very own quart of ice cold water. My dog water bowl consists of a Food City plastic bag from the meat department, form it into a bowl, filler up, and a way he goes. He downed a whole quart, poor slob. This "pit stop" was just 1.1 miles from TH. We continued to work our way to the true summit and low and behold, a pyramid or rocks revealed itself. No summit register. Will have to change that on a future expedition.

Pounced back as much as I could trace back on the way up. Spent a lot of time clearing, ripping branches, setting some cairns and basically getting all the heavy lifting out of the way to accommodate my "no trail, no hike" snowflake friends.

The chapparral chewed up my arms pretty good. Today was a good day, did not have to use my AK.
