Traffic was horrible on the commute time from house to TH (Walker Road & Senator Highway Intersection) saw three deer and a flock of wild turkey on the way down, took all but 5 minutes, usually takes 4.
58 Degrees when we launched with a little sprinkling of rain. Followed my usual East Ridgeline traverse to Tritle summit. I knew that from a previous post that the Summit Register I planted was removed. Was disappointed to find that someone knocked over all the cairns around the true summit as well as removing the other summit register (unless I could not find it). Its never a dull moment taking the "freestyle drop" down any of the numerous ridges down into the Hassayampa drainage (N; NNW; NW; NWW). Cliffed out a couple times with some down climbs here and there. Losing count on the times making this descent and have yet to find an easy route that would play nice covered in two plus feet of snow (future snow hikes). The problem with this most recent route is, we do not get a birds eye view of the Senator/Maxton Mill which is blocked by the NNW ridgeline. So next mission will plan to cut it a little more NW and assault down the NNW ridge to capture that view but in a more northerly direction (dont want to miss some rock climbs by some pools and waterfalls of the Hassayampa drainage).
Another big disappointment.... in the Hassayampa River there was an abundant supply of LITTER. Next trip will bring a garbage back and collect it all... but worse was the GRAFFITI.... in and around the Hassayampa Falls.... very very saddening... how can people do this? The Hassayampa Mill is covered in spray paint graffiti and some of it is art and not offensive...but painting the rocks in and around the falls? Come on man! It takes a lot to get me mad. I would like to beat the crap out of the insulant bastards that have destroyed the beauty of the falls. Perhaps I need to set up a wildlife cam for the falls.
We ran out of time to enter the Senator Mine and looped around in the drainage all the way back to the start. Water flowing and after the rains the forest smelled so clean, too bad we cant bottle up that fresh scent. |
