Did a practice hike in preparation for official butterfly count scheduled on 9/17/16 in MSC. We have 4 locations scheduled this year. I have assigned myself to Tom's thumb canyon area :D This hike goes into Tom's thumb canyon area, then carpooling to 128th st water tank to look for pudding butterflies. Since the areas are off trail, a permit is required by city of Scottsdale. We carried the permit and scouted the area. Rain was in forecast but luckily we only experienced slight drizzle. Most of the time it was cloudy so we didn't see many butterflies. We photographed Mexican yellow(summer form) first time in the conservancy so it will be added to the database :y:
This year is my first year coordinating our butterfly count in the conservancy. Last year was Brian aka Sun_Ray. Thanq Brian for sharing your precious knowledge and experience from last year :) .
Highlights: we saw peregrine fledgling. Saw lots of tiny froglets at the water tank. Mexican yellow sighting :y:
