| no partners | | I had the need to return to this wildlife sanctuary for some unfinished business after the previous weekends finds.
The highlight of the the entire trip happened before the hike even happened around 6:00am.
Just before I hit the dirt road on the Young Highway I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting a MOUNTAIN LION!
That was my first time ever seeing one of those beasts and I was in pure amazement watching all six feet or more of it running in full stride across the road.
Started the day in a puffy at a chilly 38 degrees but by lunch I was stripped down to shorts and a tank sun baked and warm.
Again no shortage of ground water in all the different canyons, this time I was only lucky enough to find the leftovers of an old deadhead with the antlers unfortunately chewed off for the most part.
Always nice and quiet and never see anyone until back on FR 411 which can be a popular connector road especially during hunting season as this is prime Wapiti country!
***Tacked on the 7 miles from my Deer Flat-Webber Creek trip so it accumulates in my March totals. |
