| no partners | | I started at the Clay Spring area and stayed inside Naegelin Canyon for a couple miles further than my visit to this spot last year.
Plenty of deep pools but no flowing water was encountered, within a mile of Colcord Canyon I bounced up and out of the Naegelin and headed up to the rim.
While making the slow but steady ascent up I encountered all sorts of great finds!
After spending the last 114 miles of March being brutalized by catclaw, manzanita and scrub oak this walk in a ponderosa pine forest felt like a stroll in the park and was thoroughly enjoyed!
Never saw or heard another person which was surprising because this place was filled with hunters and campers last fall.
Just as I was finishing up for the day I came across to what I believe was a dead black bear cub in a small canyon, see photos for reference.
One large bull elk and a deer were the only other wildlife encounters for the day in this hearty and healthy forest. |
