Got about halfway up and my final straw was when I started sliding very severely to the side towards some very large cliffs at one point had to tell my wife to take my son out and help me back up about 1/4 of a mile to a turnoff so I could turn around. Didn't want to let this ruin our day so we hopped across the beeline highway and drove as far as we could before the roads over there got too bad. Led us to a little dirt road that I saw reached the East Fork of Sycamore Creek. Figured we might head up there and see if we might get some water. It was incredibly dry for January and the creek was bone dry for a while but eventually we got to some running water. It was beautiful and unexpected but based on maps and how dry it had been this winter and the fact that there was running water, I figure in parts of this canyon there is year round running water or at the very least some perennial little pools. At our turn around point we came across a relatively recent deer kill and some mountain lion tracks. It was pretty cool knowing that there was definitely a lion in that canyon somewhere near by. It was a fun little hike that turned a scary day into a great one |
