Tracey was curious enough to start climbing it, but within ten feet she reached the end of her comfort-level said 'Enough!'.
(I made sure to film her attempt, you know, just in case something worth sharing happened... but nothing did)
Rather than back-track the same route, Tracey actually asked if I wanted to cut across the slope to the next old road I had tentatively mapped out.
Sure enough, let's go! By following the elk trails it was pretty easy going, at least as long as the terrain had taller trees to limit the low vegetation. But inevitably manzanita would rear it's ugly head, which like yesterday, would be dealt with post-haste and we would cruise through.
Unfortunately we traversed far below where I expected the other road to be and we didn't care for that much more climbing cross-country. As it turned out, it would be enough of a challenge to take a short-cut back to our camp.
Once back to camp and everything was packed and ready-to-go, we drove a short distance on FR 189 for our lasthike of the weekend, this time on the south side of FR 189. |
