A friend told me about 10-20ft waterfalls on Oak Creek and I told them they lost their mind until the showed me the photos. Upon seeing the photos I was certainly amazed how beautiful the waterfalls were and could not believe I had never seen them before. One thing I was certain of after seeing the photos was that the source of the falls were powered by a spring or runoff on the side of the creek (similar to Hanging Gardens, WCC) rather than Oak Creek itself because it was completely obvious.
Anyway this triplog will focus on my second time here since thats when I actually had a chance to explore this place.
I only came back since a eager girl-friend offered to drive and it was our second stop of the day after checking out Paradise Forks/Sycamore Falls and I guess I did really want observe and check out the source of these five strange waterfalls for myself. After my first visit I realized the waterfalls are not powered by any springs but they are instead just multiple run offs of The Oak Creek Ditch. My first trip I did not physically look at the Oak Creek Ditch so this time around I climbed up the hillside to see it myself. I assume the Oak Creek ditch was a semi natural ditch/run off at somepoint but now it seems to have its impact by man now and is utilized by all the houses around that area. After a little research I found out the falls run pretty much year round and are not just due to high water levels. Regardless of them being man made or fake its actually quite a beautiful area thats a nice quick stop if you are ever driving from PHX to FLG. |
