What began as an aimless wandering hike on/near the Maricopa Trail (Wild Horse section) morphed into an ascent of Peak 2311 along a mountain bike trail. As steep as it is I could only imagine dragging a bike all the way to the top then careening down the slope...
... only for the young/stupid/life-forever crowd. :M2C:

Starting from the wash going up I was immediately faced with a decision which to climb... the one on the left was all pea-gravel with a drop near the top, while the other... well, with the Palo Verde in the way it was hard to tell exactly where it was so I just followed the torn up slope until it became obvious how ridiculous the jump looked. To me anyway... even if I was 50 years younger I would give it a pass.

See the first photo and you will get an idea of what would entail jumping over the Palo Verde, sticking a landing on the side of a 60° slope while attempting to stay upright sliding down into the wash. :scared:

After a moment to ponder that jump, I continued my ascent... adding up the danger quotient with each successive jump. By time I reached the top I figured there were at least half-a-dozen jumps over which one very slight miscalculation could easily lead to very serious injuries... whether wearing a helmet and 'armor' or not.
Nope, not just road-rash, but more on the order of bone fractures. ](*,)

While the view at the top was worth the hike up, it was a challenge on foot in both directions, even with judicious use of my hiking poles. Steep downhills are still the source of some pretty intense back pains so every step must be planned. But then again, I won't rebuild the back muscles by sitting at home or even walking on flat ground.
