| partners | | Second trip to Peeley. First was back in 2015. Today I was joined by harem members Gallydoll and Jan. Pleasant 63 degrees at the beginning of the hike, we would return to the jeep at 83 degrees. Temps were great throughout the hike, a little warm on the way back down, but cool breezes kept us comfortable. Had an eagle circling above us on our way up. Path to the summit was well cairned and pretty easy to follow. Met up with Phil from Apache Junction at the top. Mostly uneventful trek back down to the parking lot.
Just after returning to the jeep, an older fellow pops up off Deer Creek trail wearing a big back pack and carrying another. He asked if that road (201) lead back to the highway. He went on to say that he had come up from route 188 and had spent the night on the trail. I asked if he was traveling with someone since he was carrying an extra back pack. He said he was and that she was lagging behind. He then dropped the packs and headed back down the trail. A national forest service archeologist exited the Deer Creek trail next and added that the older couple were out of water and that he was going to give them a lift back to their car.
We left for lunch in Fountain Hills. We all commented how lucky that couple was that there were people up at the Peeley trailhead today! |
