The 240 road is about 10 miles of slow going dirt road, no high clearance needed. We started our hike at 7am in a light rain at 61 degrees. The rain didn't last long but would revisit us two more times while on the top. This is a very pleasant hike through the pines with few views. There was no water to be found in Mormon Lake today, and very little in Mormon Mountain Tank. We headed over to the north side of the mountain and scouted out an area affording views of San Francisco Peaks. We stopped at the pizza shop for lunch at Mormon Lake across from the lodge and left after being ignored. Not wanting to bounce our way back over to the I-17, we took Lake Mary road down to the 260 to Camp Verde and stopped for Bar-B-Que at Babe's Round Up. |
