| partners | | Some time ago while exploring some canyons Jon and I unexpectedly stumbled upon what would have been an amazing waterfall but at the time it did not have any flow.
We kept it on the radar and even made another trip back in July after a good storm to yet again find it flow-less.
The moon and stars aligned the other day and a couple storms hit the area that already had solid ground saturation giving life to the rare ephemeral waterfall we had dreamed of!
We were even lucky enough to even catch another one in all its glory that I had on my list but never went to before which was a major bonus!
Which I must say both of these falls have been visited by other Hazzers before but not when water was flowing and I would mention their names as they are two different people and longtime members but that wouldn’t make it any fun so I’ll just wait and see if they recognize the areas.
During the second hike we had an awesome close up black bear encounter at the bottom of a canyon during heavy rainfall.
The very large primarily brown colored bear slowly ran up the canyon, stopped to look back once and then continued on out of our sight.
Later the skies really let loose and we found ourselves in the middle of a gnarly little lightning storm and were fortunate enough to find the “bears house” and all three of us and two dogs comfortably sat in the Coconino Sandstone cave and drank beer taking refuge until the storm passed.
An absolutely phenomenal weekend of hiking and camping on The Rim was celebrated by crashing the Payson Rodeo afterparty with The Wilderness Boys! |
