| no partners | | For my Monday night hike, I decided to do the Long Loop in the competitive track area of McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
I saw two tarantulas, a javelina, several pack rats, and lots of moths, though not as many as I saw last week, Wednesday.
Trail conditions were good at the beginning and the end, but not so good in the middle. In particular, there were deep, but rocky ruts in the South Ridge area all the way past Cactus Corner. I think I'd have trouble riding it now, though I think I used to ride it (back when I was doing a lot of riding) in similar conditions.
Despite being very familiar with this trail - I've probably ridden it over a hundred times - I somehow got slightly off track while crossing the South Wash on the way up to the South Ridge. Within about 10 yards, however, I realized that I was off track and backtracked to the point where I messed up. The trail veered slightly left through some close vegetation. I continued in a section of the wash which, at night, looked more like the trail than the trail did. |
