| no partners | | Linda and I did a 10+ mile loop for our Friday morning hike.
Starting from Tom's Thumb Trailhead, we hiked Marcus Landslide, turned left onto Boulder, which took us into MMRP. Following Boulder to its eastern end, we then turned right onto Pemberton and right again onto Coachwhip. The Windmill Trail took us back into MSP where we turned right onto the East End Trail. It had gotten warm and it was slow going up the East End Trail, but we eventually got to Tom's Thumb Trail. Once there, we turned left to see if we could see the remains of a deer that had been killed, possibly by a mountain lion, earlier in the week. Linda knew approximately where it should have been, but we didn't see anything aside from a bit of fur. We weren't really sure whether that was part of the kill or not. We returned to the parking lot via Tom's Thumb Trail.
We considered going onto Tom's Thumb, the pinnacle, and then possibly down the Lost Wall Loop, but we decided against it since Linda was running low on water. I had finished my first reservoir while coming up East End and was, by then, partway through my second.
We saw a rattlesnake along the way - it was angry about being disturbed. We also saw some caterpillars digging holes. We spotted several lizards; one posed for me - I think I may have gotten a good photo. We also saw a number of flowers including Datura, Arizona Poppy, and one which Linda told me was Devil's Claw. |
