| no partners | | Starting from Pine TH, I hiked Highline and Donahue. When I got to the end of Donahue, I hiked FR 218 (Milk Ranch Point Rd) and then west on FR 9382L. After taking some photos at the end of 9382L, I turned around and mostly retraced my route.
The route I did (on the way back, anyway) is the latter half of the Pine Canyon / Donahue Loop. I'm thinking about doing this loop someday, but I hadn't hiked the Donahue Trail before - I wanted to see what the descent was like. The Donahue Trail is is pretty good shape and route finding is straightforward.
I got off route for a short ways at the end (when I was back on the Highline Trail), turning left at a fork instead of turning right. I think I was continuing on the Arizona Trail instead of taking the route back to the trailhead. Both forks were good, but the left one was somewhat wider and better defined.
I saw a few other hikers. I also saw a bunch of cows along FR 218 and FR 9382L. They were mellow cows, though I did take my time working my way past them so as not to spook them.
The views were mostly forest views, though occasionally more expansive views became available near the edges of the rim. |
