| partners | | quickie w/ @pickles (lesa) and theatrix (lauren). easy to access, pick your way down from the end of the dirt road/cul-de-sac and stay near or in the canyon bottom most the way. a bit of catclaw, not a major hindrance. no cholla or other nasties to contend with, for the most part. canyon has a few bends, a few highlights, a couple cool arches and a bit of alcove exploration is recommended. this is not a destination hike for me, just a place to poke the head around a bit. I feel it would be a good introduction to off-trail hiking in this area. around 5 miles from the eastern t/h to the salt river and back. for a more substantial hike, i'd add @adilling route or even combine the official route up black cross and back down to make a loop. good to see another HAZ sticker at the t/h - and to meet the owner @hikerdw in the canyon. also, even though this is a fairly hidden gem, we saw about 5 others down there today. it's getting more rare to get away from "crowds". 3 of the hikers we met had never heard of HikeArizona.com... can you imagine?! |
