| partners | | Hiked into Crucifix Canyon from the usual way on the dam road. Followed down canyon all the way to the lake. On the way passed by a couple of overnight backpackers. Other than that it was fun scramble with large boulders to navigate and a brief stop to look at the Bat Cave from a distance. Took a short break at the lake spot before hiking back up canyon.
After the break we hiked up canyon about halfway back and then took an off trail side drainage. The goal was to intersect with the ridgeline above Crucifix. Once up on the ridge we had some great views and fortunately picked up a decent use trail.
Followed the use trail to a junction with real trail that ascended Black Cross Butte. Saw couple of people in route to the butte but had the summit to ourselves. Took another break on the summit before hiking back down on real trail to the vehicle. Good hike with a nice side trip to Black Cross Butte! |
