| no partners | | Started just after 9:00am with my daughter. The first mile went by quickly, so we stopped for a short snack break. After that, my daughter led a steady pace up all the switchbacks, and by about 3.50 miles, we were hiking through patches of snow--she was thrilled. She slowed a little through the snow, not because of difficulty, but because she wanted to play around in it. By the time we reached the cabin, clouds had started to gather, mostly to the north and east. We took a quick break at the cabin, then headed up to the summit. We'd been at the top no more than a minute or two when there were 3 loud rumbles of thunder, all within a couple of minutes. So lunch plans at the top were scrapped and we headed quickly back downhill. By the time we'd reached the cabin again, the storm had moved away, but we ate lunch there instead. After that, we headed back downhill, making good time the entire way. My daughter was super proud of herself for reaching the top, especially when she had seen a group of three hikers turn around at the snow on their way up. Great day with her, and she is now planning her next big hike. |
