Wanted a nice hike in the cool pines and got 1 out of 2. Trail starts near all the church and school camp grounds and then slowly goes into a more remote area. Very easy to follow path and signs the whole way. Everything was very lush and green. Saw a deer right away. Lots of "spruce" trees and loooots of oak. Thought about going up Union but didnt bring enough water for that extra distance and climb. Good thing too, because after I got past the tower on Spruce Mnt, it got pretty hot out, so that would have been pushing it.
A friend of mine says the sun affects you more at higher elevation because you are closer to the sun, but he may or may not also believe the earth is flat, so I'm not sure how that works.. but at 7000ft it felt hotter than 92.
