Bruce's week to pick. I requested a good trail-hike since I'm not up to snuff after a short hiatus. He came back with a 5,700 AEG idea... my kind of humor but we agreed to cut out 45%

We were on the frontline of the army of hikers since the preserves don't open until 5 hrs before the day is half over. The army was spaced out hundreds of yards but not wild-approved half-mile spacing.

The ascent up Bell Pass always gives the heart a workout. A nice breeze helped and I shed my AZ winter coat, a long sleeve shirt. Bell Pass down to Windmill was pleasant. Before heading up East End we took a slightly late five mile break. I saw a jackrabbit a couple times in the distant as I was sitting down. Apparently stalked us making a full circle around. Leaving, surprised he was nearby on the flipside.

We had a small group holding handily a furlong behind us heading up East End Trail. The boulders are cool. Tom's Thumb to Lookout Trail was busy with all ages. Squeaky friendly too. Heading up Lookout Trail I expected nobody. One group of 8-10 then three or four couples in our journey out-n-back.

We got the prime end lookout spot for a break. With everything so green it was a spectacular view. Bruce asked a couple wanting their photo taken where they were from. We run across more Michigan folk than seemingly possibly by standard Vegas odds. Of course Bruce is from Michigan so I know the next five minutes of my life will be filled with stories of ice fishing, hunting and kicking back at the rotary club on twelfth street.

The least used part of Tom's Thumb Trail is heading down west. The tread is not characteristic of the park but it's one of the best stretches up or down.

Opted for Desert Park Trail to complete the loop. Upscale neighborhood hiking at it's finest in the Valley of the Sun IMHO. Easier, quicker Saturday. Fanny packed it and boy howdy is a five pound pack nice!
