Nice crisp morning, always enjoy hiking the Little Saddle Mountain trail. Encountered some deadfall across the trail but easy enough to get around. Followed a use trail to Marion Spring and then hiked up to the source. Very nice spring with a nice flow. From there we jumped back on the use trail thinking it would take us to Chalk Spring but no luck. The trail ended at an old corral site and the closer we got to Chalk the thicker the vegetation got so we decided to leave it for another day and headed down to Upper Sheep Creek to check out that spring and have lunch. Nice flow at Upper Sheep Spring and a great spot to break. During lunch we could hear the barking of dogs and as we were nearing the junction to where we could either go right to finish via Black Ridge or go left which would take us back to Little Saddle, we could tell the dogs, and most likely hunters, were up on Black Ridge, where we would be hiking into, so in order to give them space to enjoy their sport we chose to go left.
Great day, although a little shorter hike than I hoped for, but that just means I'll need to go back.
Note: I forgot to resume my track after lunch so about a half mile from Upper Sheep Creek Spring is from one of my previous tracks and then joined with this track where I resumed. |
