I needed get out of the house and do a quick hike this morning and I opted for the always amazing Jacob's Crosscut. I parked at the first little lot off First Water and took the connector trail to Jacobs Trail. 4-5 cars in the parking area when I arrived about 830am. Had the same idea as me, I guess.

I started out with the intention of hiking past the Siphon Draw and then turning around and heading back after about 3 miles. Mission accomplished. The clouds up this morning were very interesting. I am glad I decided to hit this one today.

The brittlebush is amazing right now on the plain up to the mountain. The entire hillside is awash in a sea of yellow. Not many other blooms, a few marigolds near First Water and some globe mallows mixed in.

I hiked up the Siphon Draw for a few 100 yards, snapped a few pictures and then went back to the Jacob's Trail. I went to the point on the path where the Flatiron starts dipping behind the mountain. The brittlebush was really thick on this section of the trail.

I saw about 15-20 people all day. Some heading up the Siphon Draw, others along the Treasure Loop. I passed a few parties going back along the Jacobs Trail.

I was lucky with the snakes today. I came across one right where the trail dips down below the mountain. It was in the middle of the path, but quickly slithered over to the side and took up a defensive posture. I took a few pictures and then slowly went around him. I saw another on on the way back right near the Siphon Draw/Crosscut junction, but it was moving quickly into the bush. Flight won out over fight with this one.

Got some fresh air, exercise, critter viewing and some nice pictures. Just what the doctor ordered - sanity restored.
