The destination of this hike is the big "golf ball" that sits just above 5,000 ft at the end of a paved service road. The "ball" is an FAA radar station and you can see it, if you know where to look, from miles and miles away!
The hike is not difficult but it is a good workout if you choose to walk up the road to the summit instead of driving it, which is what I always do. There are the occasional motorbikes and mud vehicles that will pass you but you will mostly have the place to yourself.
I drove north on Seven Springs Rd for several miles and turned onto East State Hwy 562. Sounds like a bigger road than it is. I parked 3 miles down from the summit and made my way up. It isn't really steep but you will feel your efforts.
The views are great! I was intrigued by the Verde River below and pondered making my way down to it on another visit.
The skies were overcast and I got bit by the wind at the top but I had a great morning up there!
