With triple digits in the valley, I decided to head up to the pines of the rim and enjoy the cool weather. My original plan was to hike the entire U Bar Trail but I got a late start from the valley and with tons of traffic it took a bit on the 300. Parked off 321C and started up U Bar. Brought a new pair of shoes (big mistake) and after about 2 and a half miles I felt a couple blisters coming on. Stopped made some adjustments and headed down into Dane Canyon. Tons of water flowing in the canyon and the dry clumps of grass always make it fun. Instead of continuing on U Bar I decided to be adventurous

and take the middle section of Dane Canyon back down and come back up at Dane Spring. No "official" trail in this part of Dane, but a pretty decent game trail which I followed most of the way. A couple spots of dead fall here and there and numerous water crossing as the canyon closed up for a bit, but nothing horrible. This was my first time in this section Dane and it has a couple of cool looking rock features. Hiked out of the canyon near Dane Spring and an easy stroll back to the truck. Passed a small group about a mile from the cabin as I was coming in then a couple with a dog right past the cabin; other then that I had it all to myself.
Sidenote - This is my third trip in a row coming up to the rim without seeing any wildlife, which is weird as I used to see tons and tons of deer and elk. Maybe I need to start showering.
