Since I did not feel like floating the truck down Pinto, I turned around and headed up 287a stopping at the Upper Haunted Canyon TH. I've hiked Haunted Canyon numerous times but have not done the upper portion. A balmy 27 degrees at the start with a light dusting of snow at the TH. At about a half mile in I came across some pretty fresh cat tracks in the snow and had the pleasure of following them up the trail for roughly a mile. Once I got to about 4,400 feet the snow started getting much deeper and pretty slick. I slowly made my way up to the saddle took a short break before heading back down to the TH. I'm not sure if their is water normally in the ravine but it was flowing pretty good the entire way and only likely to continue with the snow melting the next couple of days. I still need to get out to Horrell to hike Pinto Peak when the water goes down. |
