Pre-dawn start to get some exercise and visit a few of the easy to get to petroglyphs in the conservation area. We entered the trail system from the south through the riparian area named "Jewel Of The Creek". No flow in the creek but there were areas with large pools still.

We exited the bosque on the Dragonfly Trail which linked us to the Spur Cross Trail. We climbed up and looped around north and back down to the creek which we followed north to where the Tonto National Forest begins. From there we turned south and cut over to Cottonwood wash to visit the last two petroglyphs on our list. One of them we couldn't find even though we had been to it before. Everything was so overgrown it was well hidden! To make matters more difficult I was wearing shorts, and the bush whacking was pretty rough on the legs. Should have marked a way point when we were there the first time. [ photo ]

Got some nice landscape photos and also saw a turkey vulture. I think he had noticed Cathy's slight limp :) . The strangest thing however were the mass quantities of dead algae completely covering and clinging to the rocks in the creek bed. The sun had bleached it white and it pulled off the rocks like paper mache. Very odd to witness the scope of it. There are photos of it in the photoset.
