| partners | | I've always wanted to do a loop around the entire perimeter of Cave Creek Regional Park. Mrs. SloFolks is still not able to hike so I had to find a surrogate to do this loop with me. Angela the "tibbernator" was nice enough to join me so we could both work the remaining L-Tryptophan out of our system from our Thanksgiving dinners yesterday.
We did a CCW loop starting from the P.A. Seitts Trailhead using the Military, Flat Rock, Quartz, Go John, Overton, Slate, and Flume trails. Route shown in photoset. 8am start and the weather was beautiful for the duration of the trek.
Things looked nice considering the lack of rain until we reached the northern section of the loop and encountered the burn area from the East Desert Fire from last May. I only took one photo of the burn as it was just too depressing. The loss of all the saguaros and flora is very disheartening.
We stopped at a ramada near the Nature Center and had some lunch then continued east on the Slate trail. Once on the Flume trail we did some detective work and ascertained how the namesake flumes were being used to direct water for sluicing pay dirt for gold back in the day. Those miners were not lazy!
Great hike with great company. Thanks for joining me Angela. You are handling retirement very well. |
