| no partners | | A loop we have done before in the Sonoran Preserve North trail system. This time we went CW on the recommendation of @tibber to add a little steepness to the first climb of the two high points. Thanks, I think.
We arrived to the trailhead at zero dark thirty and we were maybe the 30th car in the lot with a stream of car headlights behind us. I had forgotten how busy City of Phoenix trails can get on weekends. After the summit on Ridgeback the crowds thinned out quite a bit. A lot of folks use that first climb as their workout I'm guessing. Near the end it got very busy again with hikers and bikers coming around from the other direction.
All the bikers we encountered were very courteous and only about half the hikers were what I would call friendly. :-( There were several folks hiking with darn near full-on hazmat masks on. I don't get it, but to each their own. The smoke from the Horse fire was pretty thick and smelly. It made for a pretty sunrise however. |
