I was hoping that the lack of color in the Beaver Turkey Ridge Area was not going to carry over into West Bear Canyon as well. Bear Canyon is deeper with less sunlight. Well, my hopes were dashed. If anything, there was almost zero color at all. Even the Ferns were still very green in spots and the Maples were still summer green with only a very few showing any signs of changing at all. So I cut this hike short as well. I did not encounter a Bear in Bear Canyon, but there was some very fresh piles around that left me wondering if I would indeed have an encounter. There were some Elk close by, as the Bugling was rather loud, but I think they were above me. Never did see them though.
I was going to do East Bear the following day, but after seeing West, I decided to pack it up and head for Flagstaff and hopefully have better luck. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Isolated 95% of Maples are summer greens. 5% are just barely turning. Ferns aren't even totally gold yet in many spots. |
